Who this agreement is between

This is an agreement between you and Chaffline, in Denmark. “We” and “Chaffline” refer to us. “You” refers to whoever adds the bot to a server or pays for a plan.

You accept these terms when you register a server, by ticking the box shown before Chaffline starts checking it. Adding the bot to a server is not acceptance and does not begin anything. If you register on behalf of a company, a community or any other party, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms on their behalf.

Paid plans are available to those aged 18 or over. The free plan carries no requirement beyond Discord’s own.

These terms apply alongside the privacy policy, which forms part of the same agreement.

What Chaffline does, and does not promise

Chaffline checks messages posted in the servers you register against the categories you have enabled, and either removes those that exceed your chosen threshold or reports them to a log channel.

It is not a guarantee. Chaffline will fail to catch material it should have caught, and will act on material it should have left alone; no configuration reduces either to zero. It is a filter that operates when nobody is watching, not a substitute for the people who moderate your server.

Two responsibilities therefore remain yours. Your community and what happens within it remain your responsibility, including any legal obligation you have in respect of illegal content. And the choice of how strict to be, which categories to enable, and whether Chaffline removes or only reports, is yours to make.

We develop the service over time, including how it assesses messages and which categories it covers. Where a change would materially reduce what you receive, we will notify you in advance.

Adding it to a server

Adding the bot to a server does not start it. It remains in the server, checking nothing and costing nothing, until that server is registered — which is done in the dashboard and is where these terms are accepted.

By registering a server you confirm that you run it, or that you have the authority of whoever does.

Registration can be withdrawn at any time. Chaffline then stops checking that server immediately and stays in it doing nothing, exactly as before it was registered.

You should inform your members that automated moderation is in use, in your rules channel or somewhere equally visible, and direct them to the privacy policy. Within the EU and EEA you are the data controller for your members, which makes this a legal requirement rather than a courtesy.

You will need a data processing agreement with us for the same reason. Contact us and we will provide one.

Acceptable use

You must not use Chaffline to:

  • Breach Discord’s terms of service, developer terms or community guidelines. Where Discord withdraws something, so do we.
  • Monitor individuals. The log exists so that moderators can review the service’s decisions, not to compile records about a member.
  • Cover a server you do not run.
  • Resell, sublicense or present the service as your own without a written agreement with us.
  • Interfere with the service, including circumventing plan allowances or any activity that degrades it for other servers.
  • Act unlawfully under Danish or EU law.

We may suspend or close an account that does any of these, or that is in arrears. Where circumstances allow, we will tell you what the problem is and give you an opportunity to resolve it first; where the harm is immediate, we may act before doing so.

Plans and allowances

Each plan includes a monthly allowance of messages, as set out on the pricing table. The allowance resets on the first of each month, UTC, and is the same whether you pay monthly or for a year at a time.

Not every message posted in your server counts against it. Messages you have excluded, and those the service does not need to assess, are not charged to the allowance, so in practice a plan covers more activity than its figure suggests.

Reaching the allowance

Chaffline stops checking messages in that server until the month resets. It does not continue and charge you for the excess. There is no overage fee, no additional invoice and no automatic upgrade; moving to a larger plan is your decision.

Messages posted while a server is over its allowance are not checked. If your server is approaching its limit, upgrade before it is reached.

The free plan exists so that you can evaluate the service on your own server before paying for it. We may change or withdraw it on 30 days’ notice.

Payment

Prices are in US dollars and do not include VAT or sales tax. Where your country charges tax on a purchase of this kind, it is added at checkout, and the total is shown to you before you pay.

Paid plans are billed in advance, for a month or for a year as you choose at checkout, and renew automatically for the same period until cancelled. A year is charged at eleven months. Your plan is sold, charged and invoiced by our payment provider, which is the seller for that transaction and issues your receipt. We do not receive or store your card details.

Where we change a price, you will receive at least 30 days’ notice by email and the new price takes effect at your next renewal. Cancelling before then incurs no charge.

If a payment fails it is retried and you are notified by email. If it remains unpaid, the server reverts to the free plan rather than being withdrawn without notice.

Right of withdrawal

If you are purchasing as a consumer rather than for a business, Danish and EU law give you 14 days from the date of purchase in which to withdraw, without giving a reason.

Chaffline is a service consumed as it is supplied. At checkout you are therefore asked separately, by a tick box of its own, to request that it begin immediately, and it is that request which allows the service to start before the 14 days have elapsed. A plan cannot begin without it, so it is a condition of purchase rather than a preference.

If you make that request and subsequently withdraw, you remain entitled to a refund, less a proportionate amount of the period you paid for, for the part during which the service was supplied. Withdrawing a week into a month returns approximately three quarters of the sum paid; a week into a year, almost all of it.

If you would prefer to keep the 14 days untouched, do not purchase yet. The free plan continues to run in the meantime and the servers you have registered are unaffected.

To withdraw, email [email protected] within the 14 days. The refund is made within 14 days of receiving your notice, by our payment provider and to the method you used to pay. You may use the model withdrawal form under the Danish Consumer Contracts Act, but an email is sufficient.

This section applies to consumers. Purchases made for a business carry no right of withdrawal.

We will not dispute a valid withdrawal. We reserve the right to decline further sales to an account or a server that repeatedly purchases and withdraws; the free plan remains available.

Ending the agreement

You may cancel at any time, from the dashboard or by contacting us. Your plan continues until the end of the period already paid for and then stops. We do not refund part of a period, other than under the withdrawal right above or where the law requires it.

Removing the bot from a server stops it checking messages there immediately, but does not itself cancel a paid plan. The subscription continues to renew until you tell us otherwise.

We may end this agreement on 30 days’ notice, or immediately where you have breached section 4 or are in arrears. If we close your account for reasons of our own rather than anything you have done, we will refund the unused part of the period.

On termination, your data is deleted as described in the privacy policy.

Availability

Chaffline is not supplied with an uptime guarantee. It depends on Discord and on a third-party provider, and either may be unavailable.

Where the assessment service cannot be reached, messages are allowed through rather than held. A filter that blocks a channel when it fails would be worse than one that stops filtering, so the service is built that way. It means an interruption presents as a quiet bot rather than an error.

We will give advance notice of planned maintenance where possible, and address unplanned interruptions as quickly as we can.

Your data

What Chaffline stores, for how long, and how to have it deleted is set out in the privacy policy. In summary: message content is not retained, a short extract of a flagged message is, and it is deleted after 30 days.

Your settings and your server’s moderation records belong to you. Aggregate usage figures, which contain no personal data, belong to us and are used to operate and improve the service.

Ownership

Chaffline — the bot, the website, the name and the mark — remains ours. A paid plan grants you the right to use the service on your servers for the duration of that plan and nothing further. You may not copy it, reverse engineer it, or use it to build a competing service.

Chaffline is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Discord Inc. Discord is their trademark.

If you send us a suggestion, we may implement it without obligation or compensation. Please do not send us anything you wish to keep confidential.

Liability

Chaffline is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it will identify any particular message, that it will suit your server, or that it will operate without interruption.

We are not liable for material your members post, for content removed that should have remained, for content left in place that should have been removed, or for loss of profit, loss of data or reputational damage. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or DKK 500 if greater.

Nothing in this section limits liability that Danish law does not permit us to limit, including our own intent or gross negligence, death or personal injury, and, for consumers, your statutory rights, which this agreement does not affect.

You will indemnify us against claims arising from your use of Chaffline, including how your server operates it and what you have told your members about it.

Changes to these terms

Where we change these terms, the date at the top changes and anyone with a registered server is notified by email at least 30 days before the new version applies. Continuing to use Chaffline after that date constitutes acceptance. If you would prefer not to accept them, cancel before they take effect and nothing further is payable.

Corrections and clarifications are made without notice.

Governing law and disputes

This agreement is governed by Danish law and disputes are subject to the Danish courts. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU or EEA, the mandatory protections of your own country continue to apply and you may bring proceedings where you live.

Please contact [email protected] first, as most matters are resolved that way. Failing that, a consumer in Denmark may refer the matter to:

  • Center for Klageløsning, Nævnenes Hus, Toldboden 2, 8800 Viborg, Denmark. naevneneshus.dk

If any provision of this agreement is held to be unenforceable, the remainder continues to apply.
